Client-Side Encryption

TimeVault

Create digital time capsules and schedule messages for the future. Write notes to your future self, hide content until a specific date, or create surprises that unlock at just the right moment. All encryption happens in your browser for complete privacy.

Open TimeVault

Send a Message Through Time

TimeVault lets you lock away messages, thoughts, or information until a future date you specify. Whether it's a letter to yourself, a gift reveal, or important reminders, your content stays encrypted until the moment arrives.

Key Features

⏳

Time-Locked Messages

Set any date and time in the future. Your message remains encrypted and unreadable until that moment arrives.

🔐

Client-Side Encryption

All encryption happens in your browser. We never see your unencrypted content or have access to your messages.

🔗

Shareable Links

Generate unique links to share time-locked content with others. They can only view it after the unlock date.

📝

Rich Text Support

Write formatted messages with basic styling. Make your future messages as expressive as you want.

🌍

Timezone Aware

Set unlock times in any timezone. Perfect for coordinating reveals across different locations.

🎁

Surprise Reveals

Create gift reveals, party invitations, or announcements that unlock at the perfect moment.

How It Works

Write Your Message

Compose your message, letter, or note. This could be anything from personal reflections to important information you want to reveal later.

Set the Unlock Date

Choose when you want the message to become readable. This could be tomorrow, next month, next year, or any date you choose.

Get Your Link

Receive a unique link containing your encrypted message. Save this link or share it with others who should receive the message.

Wait for the Reveal

When the unlock date arrives, anyone with the link can view the decrypted message. Before that, it remains encrypted and unreadable.

🔒 Privacy by Design

Your message is encrypted in your browser before it ever leaves your device. The encryption key is derived from the unlock timestamp, meaning the content is mathematically impossible to read before the specified time. We never have access to your unencrypted content.

Creative Use Cases

Letters to Future Self

Write to yourself one year from now. Capture your current hopes, goals, and state of mind to reflect on later.

Birthday Surprises

Schedule a birthday message that unlocks exactly at midnight on someone's special day.

New Year Reflections

Lock away your New Year's resolutions and open them next December to see how you did.

Announcement Reveals

Coordinate reveals for product launches, pregnancy announcements, or other exciting news.

Time Capsule Projects

Create digital time capsules for classes, teams, or communities to open years from now.

Scheduled Reminders

Create important reminders that appear exactly when you need them in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

The encryption key is derived from the unlock timestamp using cryptographic functions. Without knowing the exact unlock time, it's computationally infeasible to decrypt the message. When you visit the link after the unlock time, the decryption key can be calculated and the message revealed.
No, once a TimeVault is created, the unlock date cannot be changed. This is a security feature - if the date could be changed, it would mean the encryption could be bypassed. If you need a different date, you'll need to create a new vault.
The link contains all the information needed to decrypt your message. If you lose it, there's no way to recover the content. We recommend saving important vault links in a secure location like a password manager or secure notes app.
You can set unlock dates up to 100 years in the future. While we can't guarantee the service will exist that far ahead, the encrypted content in your link remains valid regardless. The link itself contains everything needed for decryption.
No, we don't track who opens vaults or when. This is intentional for privacy. The decryption happens entirely in the recipient's browser, and we have no visibility into when or how often vaults are accessed.
Messages can be up to 10,000 characters, which is typically enough for several pages of text. This limit exists to keep vault links manageable in size and ensure reliable sharing across different platforms.

Known limitations

  • — Share links can get long on mobile browsers when the message is large. We're working on a shorter URL scheme; for now, copying the link on desktop is more reliable.
  • — There's no account or recovery mechanism — if you lose the link, the capsule is gone. This is intentional (it's what makes it actually private), but worth knowing before you create something important.
  • — Unlock time is checked in the recipient's browser. If their system clock is significantly wrong, the unlock behavior may be off. This is extremely rare in practice.
